on monday afternoon something rather remarkable happened.
luck was firmly on my side and after moseying on down to somerset house for a brief encounter with fashion week, i found myself backstage at the mark fast spring summer 2013 show.
although i have seen shows from the side of the catwalk i have never had the experience of being backstage ahead of a show. i was in the thick of the action.

i imagined that behind-the-scenes ahead of a show would be a flurry of clothes, a desperate scramble for shoes and lots of shouting but the fast fashion army seemed to have everything under control.
i spied daisy lowe in her underwear worrying about her lipstick, while other models strutted around topless and completely care-free. there’s no time, or space, to be shy.
the designer seemed cool and collected – he had no qualms about giving a pre-show interview on camera.
as the final preparations were being made to each model; a touch of lipstick here, a sprinkling of powder there and a yank of a garment pretty much everywhere, i stood trying to take it all in, feeling rather, well, on the short and dumpy side as gazelle-like creatures breezed past.

as the tent filled up we decided it was time to go and bag our spot.
pixie lott, kelly brook and noomi rapace were just some of the stars sat front row, sending photographers into a snapping frenzy.
as the music dimmed, salt n pepa’s track ‘push it’ filled the room – the party was about to begin.
fast brought a playful parisian disco to the tent space at somerset house. i loved the sugary sweet hues, the floor-sweeping tassels and the fierce gold jewellery.

fashion week might well be over for another season but i’m already looking forward to next time and plotting my way backstage again.
