we’re feeling a little fizzy at peanut buttered this week. i was sent some of the new mavala autumn metallic line to try out and have been having fun playing with the rich, decadent hues like purple sensation and platinum marble. my particular favourite is the vibrant pearl, and it went perfectly in a little diy manicure i had in mind to try this week.
i’ve been wanting go under the sea for some bubbly fun using different sized dots. gosh i love a dot manicure – see our previous delves into dotting here and here. sticking with the marine theme, my old favourite, mavala’s blue mint from last season’s delicious collection, was perfect as a base colour. you need two lighter colours that will be your bubbles (i used vibrant pearl and a clean white) and two different sized dotting devices (i used the pointy end of a cuticle stick and a pin).

paint on two thin coats and allow to dry completely. next, take the larger of your two dotting tools and dip in the darker of the two ‘bubbles’ shades. create four to six dots starting at the end of the nail – concentrate on one corner and make a triangle-ish shape with the dots, so that there is only one dot towards the nail bed.
dip the pin into the second ‘bubbles’ shade and dot between the bigger dots and upwards towards the nail bed, so they’re mixed in the with bigger dots and then only smaller dots at the top (see close-up below). the bubbles should look like they’re fizzing towards the surface.
allow to try completely. a quick-dry spray would be good here, but don’t use a top coat, as you will inevitably wind up with smudged bubbles.
now take your fizzy nails out for a spin, and don’t forget to shout ‘bubbles! bubblesssss! my bubbles!’ in a possessive and crazed manner whenever anyone reaches out to admire your hands.
if you live under a rock and don’t understand, refer to the video below.
