oh, we do love an afternoon tea here at pb. it is something london does very well – there are few treats more wonderful than a leisurely pm spent at claridge’s with your favourite girls or even better, some mother-daughter quality time over scones, teeny tiny cakes, perfect sandwiches and comforting tea in some gorgeous fine china.
i managed to fit not one, but two afternoon teas within a few days recently, first with my mama at the westbury hotel during my quick trip to dublin, and then on friday when pb were invited down to the royal albert london tea tour pop-up.
the lovely people at royal albert china have been popping up around london serving free afternoon tea to anyone who happens to be passing and feels like a cuppa. they were in spitalfields on friday, and the lure of free tea and desserts were so popular that every table was taken for the entire duration of pb’s visit.
gorgeous floral cake stands were laden with delicate raspberry macaroons and dainty vanilla mini cupcakes. so scrumptious they were, i had gobbled most of them up before i remember to snap a few pictures. bad little blogger.
royal albert’s beautiful linens from the same collection were also on display, with pretty rose and blue polka dot cushions keeping us comfy in our seats. i’ll be stocking up on some dainty tea towels and cushions to dot around my house, they’re just so pretty.
we sipped our tea like ladies while scoffing macaroons with a little less elegance, and played with the cute lips and moustaches on sticks at our table. those clever tea folk know how we love a photo op.
there is still one event left on the london tea tour, at jerden place on the 13th of october, so if you’re into gorgeous china, cakes, vintage and fake moustaches, head on down to enjoy the free tea.
