i’m obsessed with kate spade. i want everything she designs. everything i tell you. but if i must choose one style, i’m especially enamoured with her polka dots. her iphone cases are a particular fave, as are her gorgeous wallets.
so recently i’ve been lusting after the carlisle street collection, and given my affinity for polka dot manicures (oh, you hadn’t noticed? there were these way back when, and this pretty little number, and don’t forget this one just a few weeks ago) i thought i’d emulate kate’s cute design. i know, i need to put a lid on the dots. polka dot aversion therapy perhaps. i just can’t help myself! they’re too cute! but i promise this will be the last polka dot post for a while (fingers crossed behind back).
anyway, while they’re adorning my nails i may as well tell you about them. the dotty look is nothing new for me, but an entire nail bed covered with cute little polkas? yes please, that is shiny and off-piste territory.
so, the usual: a base coat, followed by two thin coats of black (essie licorice for me). once dry, take up your dotting tool – something polky – but if it has an extra pointy tip snip the end off otherwise your dots will be miniscule. and we want them a little fat and jolly. pour a little puddle of white out onto a non-absorbant surface, dip your dotting tool in and get your spot on.
two or three dots per dip worked best for me, before it got too tacky and left a string of polish behind. not neat. allow to dry completely before moving. (remember my trick? one episode of girls with your hands on your knees will work perfectly.)
p.s. isn’t this just delicious??? going on my christmas wish list!
