there is nothing we like better than a spectacular view. scenery that smacks you right in the face, warrants a sharp intake of breath and that can be admired for hours on end.
having fallen in love with the stunning vista of london at my first heron tower experience at duck and waffle, i was delighted when the invite for the sushi samba opening party arrived, i rsvp’d quicker than a fat kid can eat a cookie.
having bored andrea to death talking about the views, i thought it was about time to take her with me so she could experience it for herself. it is pretty romantic up there and we do love a good date night at pb.
champagne in hand, we wandered through the bar areas, restaurants and out onto the terraces to take in the view. the crowd proved to be quite eclectic, suits mingled with cool east london hipsters and there was a lot of young, good looking people present.
having both lived in la (albeit at different times) andrea and i have often whined that there are no amazing roof top bars to visit, we were a little spoilt for choice in cali.
sushi samba and duck and waffle fill the void perfectly.
then there is the food, oh the food.
exceptionally friendly waiters were serving taster dishes from both restaurants and we soon found ourselves ooing and ahhing over every mouthful.
upstairs in d&w we savoured dates wrapped in bacon (a must have at any visit!), oxtail cheek and mini-sliders were also being served.
down in sushi samba we tasted succulent melt-in-your-mouth fresh tuna, cool ceviche and california rolls.
we were so absorbed with sampling every tray that came our way that we forgot to take photos. andrea was in such a world of her own she managed to graze gizzi erksine’s boob.
if that lot wasn’t enough excitement for one night there was even entertainment to enjoy. the restaurant really knows how to host a brilliant party.
pixie geldoff kicked off proceedings, belting out tunes with her new band. who knew such a small girl had such a big voice, she really can sing.
then dj mark ronson, who was sporting a new flat hairstyle, took to the decks to spin some tunes, oohwee!
despite a few technical difficulties he found his groove and we got our party feet out and our dance on.
if you haven’t been up heron tower i urge you to do so immediately. the sooner, the better. if you have plans tonight cancel them and head to bishopsgate. that’s an order.
seriously though get a move on, that view is far too good to miss out on.
