Happy New Home
When I moved into my new apartment, or flat, is another term for it, I was so happy to be in my new home. When I moved out of my house I felt great, like a woman who had a home. This kind of independence is a nice feeling at first but comes with it’s own challenges. I’ll talk a little about the great things about my apartment and things that aren’t so nice.
What is great about a new home
Unlike a house most apartments are new buildings with residents moving in within just the last few years. What’s nice about this is that you don’t have to worry if the floor or the cupboards are high quality. This isn’t just because I rent them and I don’t own them, this a nice perk to the situation but you do pay for it with the rent cheques in the long run. No, the nice thing about this is that most things tend to be much better when they are new and all things have a life span. Yes there are the exceptions of a high end antique dresser or wardrobe that has lasted through the centuries. However, these special items were often cared for and protected throughout their lifetime. In many cases they were also refinished and restored to their former glory. Unless you want to break the bank it’s best to buy what looks to be a high quality item in your price range and care for it reasonably. Essentially it will be best at first and wear down over time until you need to do a renovation or get a new item if it can be easily replaced.
With an apartment it’s nice not to have to worry about doing the gardening since there is no garden. I’m glad about this because I really don’t like shoveling snow. This is another thing I appreciate about the city. The roads are always cleaned very quickly since so many people use them. At my grandparents house we have to put ice on the sidewalks so nobody slips, this is always dangerous and we have to continue shoveling snow and breaking ice patches continuously multiple times per day. In the city there hardly needs to be any salt thrown on the sidewalks because there are so many people walking on it at all times that it naturally turns to slush and drains down the street into the gutters.
What is not so great about an apartment
Flats can have their downfalls at times. For example if anyone plays music on your floor or about you this can be extremely annoying. Luckily there is a doorman to deal with these situations and often they can be easily resolved. Sometimes though a dog can be barking so loudly or music is playing with so much bass and numerous calls to the doorman don’t help anything. This can really make you feel helpless at times since it’s not advised to go knocking on their door and telling them directly that its midnight and you need to get some sleep. Sometimes this isn’t even possible if can’t access any other floor but your own as many new key systems are designed to do for security and protection.
Overall, I’m very happy with my new home and love living in an apartment.
